Library of machine tool devices in NX CAM

Today I will show how to define machine tool devices, and add them to library. Machine Tool Device Library in NX CAM.

I will use tool holders which we mount on a turret as an example.

And these are steps which I presented in the video:

  1. Open/Import geometry of the holder
  2. (optional) Create folder for new holder
  3. Save file with holder geometry in device library directory
  4. (optional) Create assembly structure
  5. Add first component in Machine Tool Builder:
    • select geometry
    • classify component as _DEVICE
    • add “device mount” junction and classify it as
  6. Add second component in Machine Tool Builder:
    • classify component as _STATIC_HOLDER
    • add “device mount” junction (no classification)
  7. Save and close part file with holder geometry and kinematics
  8. Add new holder to “device_database.dat
  9. (optional) Reread CAM configuration files “Tool Mount”

Marek’s focus is development of postprocessors, NC code simulation kits and NX Open applications for NX CAM. In 2016 Marek founded NCmatic in Poland to provide services for NX CAM users. In 2017 NCmatic became Siemens’ Software and Technology Partner. In 2018 Marek launched second location of NCmatic in Morgan Hill, California, to make it even easier for companies from United States to cooperate with NCmatic. Marek graduated from University of Technology in Rzeszow, Poland in 2010 with master’s degree in Mechanics and Mechanical Engineering. While Marek’s area of interest is CAM software and CNC controllers, he also has hands-on experience as CAM programmer in motorsport industry.
